Federer reaches Olympics quarterfinals

London, Aug 1 (IANS/RIA Novosti) World No.1 Roger Federer beat Uzbekistan’s Denis Istomin to reach the quarterfinals of the men’s singles tennis competitions of the London Olympics here Wednesday.
Federer eventually beat Istomin 7-5, 6-3 after coming under pressure in the first set where he was almost broken by the world No.35.
The Swiss seven-time Wimbledon champion will now face either 10th seed John Isner of the United States or Serbia’s Janko Tipsarevic, seeded seventh, in the quarterfinals.
