Bengaluru, Apr 13 (ANI): A cricket fan club has felicitated batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar with a replica of the World Cup trophy and bat in Bangalore.

The replica of the trophy was made up of four kilograms of silver and 60 grams of gold.

Expressing happiness, T. A. Sharawan, a cricket fan present at the event, said that doing so was his dream of many years.

“We have given him a gift today. He also talked with us very nicely and we are very happy in doing such work. This has been a dream for me for the past many years, I am a great fan of cricket, I love cricket. We have given a trophy to Sachin Tendulkar to felicitate him,” he said.

The 37-year-old batsman is one century away from getting an unprecedented 100th international ton. The master blaster as Tendulkar is popularly known has scored closed to 33,000 international runs.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni, skipper of the Indian cricket team, had also supported the idea of conferring Bharat Ratna on Tendulkar, the highest civilian award of the nation.

India re-wrote history by winning the coveted World Cup in an emotionally charged final against Sri Lanka on Saturday (April 02), ushering in the nostalgic memories of 1983 to billions of cricket fans across the nation.

India last won the World Cup in 1983, when the Kapil Dev-led team lifted the trophy at Lord’s Cricket Ground in London after defeating then favourite West Indies.

Arguably one of the most thrilling tournaments of all time, the 2011 Cricket World Cup was hosted by India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka from February 19 to April 02, ending with a splendid performance by both finalists. (ANI)
