Experts named for Cricket Australia’s state-based structure review
February 9th, 2011 - 2:28 pm ICT by ANISydney, Feb 9(ANI): Cricket Australia (CA) has said that corporate experts David Crawford and Colin Carter would assist with the review of the body’s state-based structure.
According to the Age, there have been calls for CA to change to an Australian Football League (AFL)-style commission structure - the structure that Crawford played a pivotal role in creating.
“Both these gentlemen are highly qualified and extremely eminent in the corporate governance field. I don’t want to pre-empt what it (the review) is going to say, but the basis on which David Crawford and Colin Carter have been engaged is that they will provide a report to the board,” the Age quoted CA Chairman Jack Clarke, as saying.
“The timing of that is not exact yet, it’s up to the board then to decide which of those issues we do and do not go forward with. It’s not just a board issue … it’s the structure and how you feed into the boards from the states as well,” he added.
Crawford oversaw the 1992 report that resulted in the creation of the current AFL Commission and the 2003 report that led to the formation of Football Federation Australia.
The third Crawford report, submitted two years ago, recommended sweeping changes to how sport is funded in this country and met fierce opposition from the Australian Olympic Committee.
Carter, one of the original AFL Commissioners in 1993, held the role for 15 years and is now President of the Geelong Football Club. (ANI)
