Ex-Harrods boss Al Fayed to make bid for 007 film studio
April 22nd, 2011 - 2:48 pm ICT by ANILondon, Apr.22 (ANI): Former Harrods boss Mohamed Al Fayed is poised to make an offer on the James Bond studios
According to the Daily Mail, Al Fayed is seeking to become a movie mogul and is set to put in a bid for Pinewood Shepperton PLC - the film studio behind such blockbusters as the James Bond and Harry Potter franchises. Al Fayed confirmed he is considering an ‘all-cash’ bid for the historic UK studios after Pinewood had earlier announced it had received an 87.8 million pound takeover offer from its largest shareholder, Peel Holdings Ltd.
As a result, Mohamed Al-Fayed could become the owner of the largest film studio in Europe
Al Fayed told the London Stock Exchange that he was considering a deal - but added that there was no certainty a firm offer would be forthcoming.
The company is currently planning an ambitious 20-million-pound upgrade to its famous studios in Buckinghamshire - which opened in 1934 - to add facilities on a par with its Hollywood competitors. (ANI)
