Evra’s coup gets French WAGS to attend World Cup opener against Uruguay
June 11th, 2010 - 6:14 pm ICT by ANICape Town, June 11(ANI): France skipper Patrice Evra has persuaded French officials to spend 200,000 pounds to make sure that the Les Bleus’ World Cup WAGs are in South Africa today.
Raymond Domenech’s men were originally due to get a visit from their partners only if they reached the quarterfinals. However, Evra has managed to get the French Football Federation (FFF) to fly the WAGs in time to watch the clash against Uruguay in Cape Town tonight.
“I prefer the wives and girlfriends to be out there. It is psychological, and better for the players,” The Daily Star quoted Noel Le Graet, FFF Vice-President, as saying.
“It is like in ordinary life - you always feel better with a woman by your side,” he added.
Evra had previously negotiated 250,000 pounds-a-man bonuses if Les Bleus win the World Cup.
“I strongly believe that France are good enough to win the World Cup even if they haven’t played well in the friendlies they’ve had. The manager has been criticised for a long time and there’s nothing new about that, but I think what’s important is for them to get focused on the game,” Evra said.
“That’s why they have to believe they can go and win it because they’ve got the quality there,” he added. (ANI)
