Vancouver, Feb 17 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Evgeny Plushenko of Russia gave a stunning performance at the Men’s figure skating short program at the Vancouver Olympics Winter games 2010 on Tuesday, February 16. The performer who was out of practice for a long period of three and a half years returned to the Olympics to snatch the breath of his competitors. His performance is being marked as the best in men’s figure skating.
The 2006 Olympics gold champion who went through a knee surgery and was performing at shows in his nation and worldwide, appeared to be in a form better than that in which he was four years ago. Yesterday’s performance is being marked as Evgeni Plushenko’s personal best. He started with a grand combination of quad toeloop and the triple toeloop which no doubt earned him the accolades of more than 11,000 members in the audience and the judges. The 10th skater on the ice, he put the standard at such a high place that the next twenty skaters who followed seemed not so good in this performing art. Evgeni Plushenko, who is known as the “quad king” made it a point to deliver the best quad on the ice floor. He scored 90.85 while Japan’s Daisuke Takahashi scored 90.25 and the world champion Evan Lysacek scored only 0.55 less than Evgeni Plushenko.
However, the competition will be steep as this year the men’s figure skating has got some of the ace performers coming back to compete. This year France’s Brian Joubert who is the 2007 champion and America’s Evan Lysacek are back with vigor. If Evgeni Plushenko wins this year then he will be a part of history as the first man in six decades to win twice in a row the Olympic Men’s Figure skating title.
