`Evert’s presence could have helped me to win more tournaments,’ says Norman
July 20th, 2009 - 2:26 pm ICT by ANIMelbourne, July 20 (ANI): Golfing great Greg Norman has said that if his new wife Chris Evert was in his life 20 years ago, he would have more than his 88 professional wins, including two British Opens.
Apart from his victories, Norman is also remembered for crashing and burning after holding big leads.
The most notable was the 1996 Masters when Norman held a six-stroke lead on the final day, stumbled and handed the tournament to Nick Faldo.
In a revealing TV interview aired in the US, Norman was quoted by news.com.au, as saying: “Chrissy would have instilled a different thought process going into it and I would say the answer probably would be yes.”
The comment may be interpreted as the latest slap for Norman’s former wife of 25 years, Laura Andrassy.
During their bitter divorce battle for the couple’s estimated 500 million dollars fortune, Norman’s lawyers belittled Andrassy’s impact on his golf career.
“The wife did not teach the husband to swing a golf club,” a petition filed in court by Norman’s lawyers stated.
Andrassy did end up claiming a victory, walking away with a 103 million dollar settlement.
Norman quickly moved on, marrying former US tennis queen Evert under tight security in the Bahamas on June 28 last year.
Norman, 54, said in the interview on US TV show Golf in America, Evert made him more open and able to release “things” he had bottled up inside since he was 20 years old. (ANI)
