arsenalNov 15, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Arsenal has strengthened their position in the league tables with a 2-1 win over Everton on Sunday. The clash was highly anticipated by the Arsenal fans as they were hoping for a big win similar to the last encounter with Everton (1-6 Arsenal). This time, however, the dynamics were different and from the every first minute, Everton showed that they were playing with a purpose and were not intimated by Arsenal’s standing in the league.

Everton’s defense looked strong in the early minutes of the first half. Arsenal shared the possession with their opponent almost throughout the first half of the game. None of the goalkeepers had much to do till the end of the half except in the 8th minute when Everton had a free kick almost 25 meters from the goal. In the 36th minute, however, the first breakthrough came from one an unlikely player in the Arsenal squad, Bacary Sagna. Samir Nasri’s long shot from 20 yards produced a rebound from the diving Everton goalkeeper which was deftly passed to Bacary Sagna who slapped it into the net. In the last few minutes of the first half, Arsenal looked assertive and it was evident that they would dominate for the rest of the match.

The second half started with a Cesc Fabregas beauty that he netted almost casually to stamp his team’s authority on the game. The rest of the half, Arsenal looked content with the lead and ensured that there was little or no penetration of the strong defense. There was some drama, however, in the 89th minute when Tim Cahill poked in a ball that was playing around in the area after a corner. The next few minutes and extra-time was nail-biting but Arsenal ensured that the 1 goal difference prevails.
