Europe will field its strongest Ryder Cup team ever at Celtic Manor, warns Montgomerie

London, Feb 3 (ANI): Colin Montgomerie has warned his American Ryder Cup rivals that Europe will field its strongest team ever at Celtic Manor in September.
Montgomerie believes no other Europe captain has been able to call upon the quality of resources that will be available to him in Wales, and said even his biggest stars, such as Padraig Harrington and Lee Westwood, will be better golfers in eight months’ time.
“They are all getting better. It is so exciting and it will be the strongest collection of players ever assembled. We’ve never had so many high-ranked players in the world. We have the strongest potential ever in Europe,” the Daily Express quoted Montgomerie, as saying.
“Martin Kaymer is getting better, Robert Karlsson is coming back, Paul Casey is coming back, Harrington is still improving, Westwood is still improving. The ones coming through are also working hard and becoming great. No captain has had so much potential,” he added.
Montgomerie is not worried over youngsters such as Kaymer, Rory McIlroy and Ross Fisher forcing their way into the team without any cup experience.
“They will be rookies, but they’ve already played world championship events and Majors. To call them rookies is unfair. In my day I hadn’t even played a Major in America when I made my Ryder Cup debut in 1991,” he said.
Montgomerie is also not worrying about Tiger Woods returning from his self-imposed exile in time to play in Wales. (ANI)
