Cape Town, June 12(ANI): Cameroon striker Samuel Eto’o has said that his team has the players to be giant killers and become the first African nation to win the World Cup.
“Those who aim low will never go high. That I why I believe, sincerely, that we can win the World Cup. I am being serious. Our players aren’t worse than the Brazilians, the Argentinians, the Spanish or the French. We shouldn’t have a complex at all,” News of The World quoted Eto’o, as saying.
“When I look at the other teams, I don’t envy anyone, as we have it all. My job is to convince all my team-mates that it is possible, that it’s not just one of Samuel’s daydreams,” he added.
The 29-year-old further said that the “superb generation” is capable to edge past Holland, Denmark, and Japan to match their best performance of reaching the 1990 World Cup quarterfinals against England.
“We have a superb generation with Alex Song from Arsenal and the French-based players Stephane M’Bia, Jean Makoun and Aurelien Chedjou. They are no longer the little Africans playing in their corner, but players who rub shoulders every week against the best players in the big leagues,” Eto’o said.
“There have never been as many good individuals with the Lions. Before, we relied on two or three individuals. Now we have a dozen who can turn a match. So why not dream?” he added. (ANI)
