Espanyol sign striker Sergio Garcia from Betis
August 17th, 2010 - 9:38 pm ICT by IANSMadrid, Aug 17 (DPA) Spanish Liga club Espanyol announced Tuesday the signing of striker Sergio Garcia from second division Betis.
According to media reports, Espanyol have paid Betis around 1.8 million euros ($2.31 million) for the 27 year-old international forward, who will sign a five-year contract with the Catalans.
In 2008, Betis paid Zaragoza 10 million euros for Garcia, who failed to guide them to promotion back to the first division.
Garcia - who was a reserve for Spain at Euro 2008 - started his career at Barcelona then moved on to Levante and Zaragoza.
Espanyol finished 11th in La Liga last season, and will be looking to Garcia for the goals that will keep them above the relegation zone next season.
