England’s second-string bowlers up to grab Ashes slots: Tremlett
November 18th, 2010 - 2:32 pm ICT by ANISydney, Nov 18(ANI): England fast bowler Chris Tremlett believes that his team’s second-string bowlers have proved a point in their ongoing four-day warm-up match against Australia ‘A’.
Tremlett claimed 4-54, Ajmal Shahzad (3-57) and Tim Bresnan (2-65) as the tourists dismissed Australia’s rising stars for 230 runs in their first innings at Hobart’s Bellerive Oval on Wednesday.
England had rested Stuart Broad, James Anderson, Steven Finn and Graeme Swann for the match ahead of the first Ashes Test starting in Brisbane on November 25.
“We have a point to prove so it was nice to get an opportunity and I think everyone bowled well and put their hand up,” the Sydney Morning Herald quoted Tremlett, as saying.
“You’d think we will have given the selectors something to think about, but we’re here as a unit and all we can do is try our hardest when we get a chance and you never know what might happen. Hopefully I’ve put my name in the hat,” he added.
The 29-year-old further said that the domestic failures of Australian Test batsmen were of little interest to his team.
“We’re not looking too far ahead and worrying about the Aussie guys and what they’re doing, we’re just focused on ourselves. What happens around the country doesn’t bother us,” Tremlett said. (ANI)
