England’s ‘Pigeon’ Finn hopes to emulate ‘idol’ McGrath’s heroics at Lord’s
May 26th, 2010 - 1:54 pm ICT by ANILondon, May 26(ANI): England fast bowler Steve Finn regards Australian legendary fast bowler Glenn McGrath as a major inspiration, and has said that he hopes to emulate his caliber during the first Test against Bangladesh at Lord’s, starting Thursday.
“Glenn McGrath is an idol of mine and in my opinion the best pace bowler ever. It would be great to combine his accuracy with that of an out-and-out fast bowler,” The Telegraph quoted Finn, as saying.
“To have a lot of pace and be able to control it is the ideal for a fast bowler, but I want to bowl how I can and have my own style,” he added.
McGrath has an astonishing record in the three Tests that he played at Lord’s. He took 26 wickets at an average of 11.5, which is half his career average, with a best of eight for 38 in 1997.
The 21-year-old further said that the Lord’s Test would also be an opportunity for him to explore his role in the team during fellow fast bowler Stuart Broad’s absence.
“The situation of the game often dictates what kind of bowler you need to be and I need to be versatile and be able to bowl in different situations. Broad has done fantastically well and it would be nice to emulate what he’s done,” Finn said
“My bowling has improved drastically over the past 12 months. I’m still very young with a lot of development to go if I’m to reach my full potential,” he added. (ANI)
