England’s ‘lack of respect’ of German players behind their WC exit: Lahm
June 28th, 2010 - 5:35 pm ICT by ANIBloemfontein (South Africa), June 28(ANI): Germany skipper Philip Lahm has accused England of not paying enough respect to his team, which he believes was the reason behind the Three Lions’ shattering exit from the World Cup.
Germany thrashed England 4-1 in their Round of 16 match in Bloemfontein on Sunday.
“Maybe England were not prepared for this game as they should be. Maybe they under-estimated us because our players are not as famous as the England players,” the Mirror quoted Lahm, as saying.
“The reason their defence could not handle our players was because we have very good strikers. We knew that we would have chances on the break if we let England attack.”
“It was very important for us to be good on the defence because we always have the quality to get forward. We can play short, quick passes and we have a good team. It is a young team, but it is a good team,” he added.
One goal each from Miroslav Klose and Lukas Podolski reflected Germany’s domination in the first half, where the Three Lions could manage only a solitary goal from Matthew Upson.
Joachim Loew’s men went on to make the game safe with two second half goals from Thomas Muller.
Lahm further hailed the fitness and preparation of his side.
“We have good fitness coaches who have prepared us, not for three games, but for the whole tournament. We are ready for everything and we are very happy,” Lahm said.
Germany will now play their quarterfinal match against Argentina on Sunday. (ANI)
