England’s bid team has to get rid of its arrogance for a successful bid: Beckham

Cape Town, Dec 6(ANI): David Beckham has boosted England’s chance of winning the 2018 football World Cup bid simply by his presence in Cape Town during the draw, as his appearance has wooed FIFA President Sepp Blatter and Vice-President Jack Warner.
However, Beckham fired out a warning to the politicians on England’s bid team that they must stop sending out arrogant messages in the battle to beat Russia, Spain, Australia and Qatar to land the finals when the votes are cast next December.
“If we have got arrogance then we have got to get rid of it. I believe I can be part of a successful bid - but there is a lot of hard work ahead. There has been some negativity towards the bid. There have been hiccups along the way and the way we have gone about certain things hasn’t always helped,” News of the World quoted Beckham, as saying.
“Our country has one of the biggest - if not the biggest - leagues in the world, but that alone though won’t get us the World Cup. We just can’t be arrogant and think that. The arrogance is a big thing we can’t have. We have got to make sure we respect every other nation that is bidding for this,” he added.
Beckham also highlighted that England team and its fans behaviour in South Africa next summer will have a massive bearing. “It is all about attitude about respect and showing passion for the game,” he said. (ANI)
