England ‘won’t be overwhelmed’ by record 90,000 supporters at MCG: Strauss
December 24th, 2010 - 2:40 pm ICT by ANIMelbourne, Dec 24(ANI): England captain Andrew Strauss is confident that his side will rise to the challenge of playing in front of over 90,000 supporters on the first day of the traditional Boxing Day Ashes Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
Strauss said that England would attack and go all out to defeat Australia rather than accept a drawn Test.
“I’m very confident that they won’t be overwhelmed. We’re going to have the bit between our teeth this week. We were all pretty disappointed with what happened at Perth and generally we’ve been good at coming back from poor performances,” the Telegraph quoted Strauss, as saying.
“It’s a good test for us and a massive occasion. It is going to be a great honour and pleasure to play on Boxing Day in front of that sort of crowd. But it means nothing unless we can go on and win the game.”
“We’ve put Perth to bed, talked about that and we’re very much focused on what could be a massive week,” he added.
Victory in the fourth Test will be enough for England to keep the urn, but momentum has swung towards Australia after their 267 run win in the third Test at Perth’s WACA Ground. (ANI)
