England will have to give its best: Moores

Bangalore, Nov 22 (IANS) England coach Peter Moores is hopeful that his side would come up with a better performance in the fourth one-dayer against India here Sunday.”It is a big game for us. If we lose here, we lose the series. In fact, from now on every match is a final for us. We need to put in a huge effort in Bangalore with contribution from every player,” Moores said Saturday.

England have been comprehensively beaten by India in the first three one-dayers, but Moores hoped the first day-night match of the series would turn the tide in their favour.

“I hope our fortunes could change, as a day-night match changes the dynamics of the game. But the credit should be given to the Indian team. They are playing exceptional cricket. Their bowlers are doing a very good job up in the order, and their main batters are doing the bulk of work. They are playing as strong as ever as I have seen.

“But we have been enjoying the challenge of closing the gap, and hope we can come up with a good effort in Bangalore.

Talking about the close match in Kanpur which India won via the Duckworth-Lewis method because of poor light, Moores said: “In the last match we did not get any partnerships going, except for the one between Bopara and Bell. If we could have knocked off a few more runs it could have been handy, considering the situation the game ended in.”

Was he worried about bad light and rain spoiling England’s chances of regaining a toehold in the seven-match series? “It is a concern. We had a mention about the Kanpur match with the officials at that time and the upcoming match at Guwahati. We also had a word with Roshan Mahanama, the match referee. He is in the process of informing the ICC about it,” said Moores.

Moores wasn’t desperate in risking Ryan Sidebottom in this match. “Sidebottom was scanned earlier today and it was not so bad. The results will be out by later today or morning. We have to take a decision based on that. Right now we are not thinking on a replacement as we are focused on the Bangalore match. If it comes to that stage, we will think about it then. I am sure Sidebottom is desperate to get a game on this tour.”
