England team needs to be bit macho to defeat South Africa: Giles
December 14th, 2009 - 2:39 pm ICT by ANI ( Leave a comment )Dec 14(ANI): Former England spinner and selector Ashley Giles has said the team needs to become a bunch of macho men if they have to beat South Africa, the World No. 2 team.
Giles also reckons that he has never seen a fitter, stronger and better-prepared England team, and is convinced they have the self-belief and aggression to beat the Proteas.
“It is a big point of coach Andy Flower that traditionally we have started slowly in Test series. We have to change that. We need to be a bit macho, go toe-to-toe and have a battle. We are prepared for it,” The Sun quoted Giles, as saying.”Five years ago, we hit South Africa cold in the First Test and went on to win the series. We have an opportunity to do so again,” he added.Giles further said the South Africans would seek hit back hard after the ODI series defeat, due to which the pressure will be on them.
“South Africa will be looking at a certain amount of revenge after the one-day series. There will be a lot of pressure and expectation on them. So, the best thing we can do is concentrate on our own preparation,” Giles said.”And that has been good so far - our preparation has gone very well and I’ve never seen a better set of athletes playing for England. We can hit the ground running and not worry about South Africa,” he added. (ANI)
