England, Spain Winners In Opening Matches Of Hockey World Cup

It began with much fanfare, and from the turnout of audiences, it can be comprehended that it is going to turn out as per expectations, that is, it is definitely going to be one of the most watched tournaments in recent times. In fact, not only in India, it is possibly going to be most watched tournament in Pakistan too. The matches can also be watched live, both on television and online. All the clamor over the Hockey World Cup 2010 can be comprehended, considering that some of the top ranking teams are competing in it.

The very first match of the Hockey World Cup 2010 took place between South Africa and Spain, in the National Stadium at New Delhi, with Spain emerging the winner in the final quarter of the match. Though that was not surprising, considering that Spain ranks number three in the world, the first few minutes of he match did come as a shock to the team, when South Africa, ranking number 13, managed to score a goal. In fact, it was only in the final few minutes that Spain managed to win when Pau Quemada managed to score a corner penalty, making the score 4-2.

The second match took place between Australia and England. The match took lace in the Major Dhyan Chand Stadium. England managed to win the match at a score of 3-2, with the Australians managing to hold sway for the first 20 minutes or so. The wining stroke was delivered with just two minutes left in the match, when a penalty stroke was delivered by James Tindall.
