London, Mar. 30 (ANI): England soccer captain John Terry’s mum and mother-in-law have been accused of shoplifting goods worth 1,450 pounds, which is almost twice the amount of what was first thought.
The true scale emerged yesterday, fuelling anger that Sue Terry and Sue Poole were not being prosecuted.
Instead, according to The Sun, they were officially cautioned after being accused of wheeling two trolleys out of a Tesco store without paying.
The haul was put at 800 pounds, but that did not include more than 600 pounds of M and S clothing found in Sue Poole’s car.
One source at Tesco in the Brooklands Shopping Centre in Weybridge, Surrey, insisted: “The staff involved were expecting them to be taken to court.
“I’ve seen shoplifters prosecuted over far less. We’ll get a flood of chancers thinking they can get away with it.”
Items taken included watches, leggings, pet food and a green tracksuit. Embarrassed Chelsea defender Terry, 28, called off a bash for family and friends in an executive box at Wembley - where England beat Slovakia 4-0.
The soccer star’s lawyers say Terry, 50, and Poole, 54, were innocent victims of an “unfortunate misunderstanding” - and did not realise they formally admitted guilt by accepting the cautions. Police said they were issued “in accordance with national guidelines”. (ANI)
