England must send a message to India by beating Sri Lankans: Nasser Hussain

London, June 16 (IANS) Former captain Nasser Hussain has asked England to beat Sri Lanka in their cricket Test series and send out a strong signal to India.

“This may feel like a low-key series, but it’s important that England rise above the apathy and dispose of a troubled Sri Lanka side over the next few days. England must send a message to India by finishing off the Sri Lankans,” said Hussain in his column in The Daily Mail.

Going into the third and final Test against Sri Lanka, England enjoy a 1-0 lead and Hussain wants England captain Andrew Strauss to make a statement by winning the match. England host India for four Tests and a five-match ODI series starting July 21.

“A 1-0 series win (against Sri Lanka) would feel like a bit of an anti-climax after the last-minute heroics in Cardiff. With India on the horizon, Andrew Strauss will be desperate to make a statement — dodgy weather permitting,” said Hussain.
