England has good chance of reaching World Cup final: Eriksson
May 1st, 2010 - 5:45 pm ICT by ANILondon, May 1(ANI): Former England manager Sven-Goran Eriksson believes the current lot of Three Lions stars can go all the way to the World Cup final.
“England have good chances. Absolutely. They have a very experienced team. Most of the players have been in big tournaments like the World Cup before,” The Daily Express quoted Eriksson, as saying.
“You have Wayne Rooney, who is coming from a great, great season and he is an extremely important player. So, they have a great chance of reaching the semi-final and why not the final?” he added.
He further admitted that England could have done much better under his leadership at the 2006 World Cup in Germany, and claimed they are one of the favourites for the tournament in South Africa.
“We had a good chance in the last World Cup and should have done better, but they have maybe an even better chance because players like Rio Ferdinand, Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard, Rooney and Ashley Cole have more experience now, they are more mature than four years ago,” Eriksson said.
“England is one of the favourites. Maybe the biggest ones are Spain and Brazil,” he added. (ANI)
