Sydney, Jan 2(ANI): England’s cricketers are in line to share an unprecedented one million pound bonus if they win the Ashes series outright.

England took an unassailable 2-1 lead after crushing Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

The victory earned captain Andrew Strauss and his heroes one bonus for bringing home the Ashes for the first time in 24 years, the Herald Sun reports.

Should they go on to complete a series victory by winning or drawing the fifth and final Test, which starts at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Monday, they will take their total bonus pool to over a million pounds, the highest ever won by an England cricket team.

Mike Gatting’s squad in 1986-87 had won the last series in Australia with a 2-1 victory.

England team’s previous most valuable cash prize was the 800,000 pounds picked up by Paul Collingwood’s Twenty20 World Cup champions in the Caribbean last May. (ANI)
