England cricketers not to pay 10 percent of IPL fee to counties
October 7th, 2010 - 5:08 pm ICT by ANILondon, Oct. 7 (ANI): England players have finally agreed to terms for their central contracts, and a key point is that they will not be asked to forfeit 10 per cent of their Indian Premier League (IPL) income to their respective counties.
According to The Telegraph, this will come as a relief to star players like Kevin Pietersen, whose personal contribution to Hampshire’s coffers stood at well over 100,000 pounds after his two seasons with the Bangalore Royal Challengers.
In the light of England’s strong performances in 20-over cricket this year, more England players can expect to attract bids when the IPL auction is held next year.
And anyone still standing after the Ashes and the World Cup will also have a decent window of availability.
The World Cup finishes on April 2, and England’s first home Test against Sri Lanka begins on May 26.
The players can now focus on going to Australia and winning the Ashes.
“Everyone accepted that an annual battle over contractual terms is not a sensible route to take,” said Angus Porter, chief executive of the Professional Cricketers’ Association. (ANI)
