London, Aug 15 (IANS) Former Australian skipper Ricky Ponting has hailed England’s bowling attack as the best in the world and said the newly-crowned World No.1 Test team truly deserves to be at the top.

Ponting stepped down as captain earlier this year after becoming the only Australian skipper to lose three Ashes campaigns.

He has been keenly following England’s demolition of India from Sri Lanka, where the Australian team is touring.

“England’s bowling attack is the best in the world and they deserve to be ranked the best side in the world,” Ponting was quoted as saying in the Mirror.

“I’ve been watching some of the England versus India Test series on TV and there’s no doubt their bowling group is very, very good.”

“As we witnessed first-hand last year, England’s bowlers are going very well.”

England dislodged India from the World No.1 ranking after inflicting a humiliating innings and 242 runs defeat at Edgbaston. The defeat also gave them an unassailable 3-0 lead in the four-match Test series.
