Aug 8, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Emmitt Smith on Saturday night received the honor which he long deserved. The former National Football League runningback has been able to make it to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in the very first year of his eligibility. A tearful Emmitt Smith, who has to struggle all through his life to come up as a strong NFL player, thanked his family members and all those people who have helped him in his NFL career in his induction speech.
Emotion got an upper hand over the player’s speech many a times on Saturday night when he remembered his struggle as a child. The player added that while most people only dream, he as a child not only had a dream but also did everything he could to make it true. The contended former NFL player added that it is his hard work that has made him the “all-time leading rusher”. He also immediately paid tribute to Walter Payton, the man whom he had left behind to make a new rushing record of his own. Emmitt Smith maintained that Walter Payton was a person who had always been an overachiever, who always had the will to be successful and now Emmitt Smith himself shares the same podium with Walter Payton. The player also remembered his father who had sacrificed a lot for the career and upbringing of Emmitt Smith.
Emmitt Smith has remained three-time Super Bowl champion. On Saturday night, he entered the NFL’s list of top runners with 18,355 yards rush. In his 13 seasons stay with the Dallas Cowboys, the player had gone for 164 touchdowns and a career-record of 4,409 carries.
