Elaborate traffic arrangements for hockey World Cup
February 25th, 2010 - 9:51 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Feb 25 (IANS) In view of the hockey World cup starting at the Dhyan Chand National Stadium here Sunday, Delhi Police have made elaborate arrangements for traffic circulation, pedestrian movement and parking.
“Accredited or verified guests and high denomination ticket holders can park their vehicles at near Rajpath and avail shuttle service up to the stadium. However, there is no parking for spectators’ vehicles at National Stadium,” Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Satyendra Garg told reporters here.
“The spectators can park their vehicles at Bhairon Mandir parking and zoo parking and will walk down to the stadium for entry. There will be no parking for unlabelled vehicles in close proximity of the stadium. Only labelled vehicles will be allowed in the parking lots near the stadium,” he said.
He also advised motorists to avoid India Gate and its radial roads. He said: “These may be congested during the World Cup. Traffic Police may also close part or entire India gate circle for general traffic, from time to time.”
The police are also undertaking an experimental traffic diversion at India gate between 8-10 p.m. Friday.
“People should avoid India Gate Friday evening. If that experimental plan is found to be successful, we may implement it for complete duration of the World Cup,” Garg said.
The police has also advised spectators coming to the stadium to not bring mobiles, bags, briefcase, eatables, radio, tape recorder, camera, binocular, digital diary, palm-top computer, remote controlled car lock keys, arms and ammunition, match box, lighter, knife, razor, scissors, screwdriver and blade.
