Madrid, Nov 19 (IANS) The eagerly awaited game between Spanish football giants Real Madrid and FC Barcelona will be played Dec 10.

The announcement was made by the Spanish Football League (LFP), Xinhua reported.

The decision puts an end to speculation that “El Clasico” could be played at midday in order to be shown on prime time television in Asia.

Real Madrid’s home game against Osasuna two weeks ago was played in front of a packed house in the Bernabeu. The experiment was considered a success.

Real Madrid currently have a three point lead over Barcelona in the League standings. But they have been unable to beat the reigning Spanish and European Champions in La Liga since the 2007-08 season, although they did beat Barcelona in the final of last season’s Copa del Rey.

Barcelona enjoyed the last laugh, however, knocking Madrid out of the semifinal of the Champions League, before defeating Manchester United in the final in May.
