Edgar Gonzalez, the second baseman for Padres, was carted off the field after being hit on his helmet by a fastball from Rockers starter Jason Hammel during the bottom of the sixth inning.
“He was transferred to the Scripps Memorial Hospital,” said Padres manager Bud Black after the game was over. “He was to undergo some tests over there, cat scans. What I know just from on the field from the trainers said prior to him leaving the park, was that he was conscious, he was lucid, he knew what had happened,” said a seemingly worried Padres manager. “He was extremely dizzy, his ears were ringing. But he knew what had happened,” added Bud Black.
As per the recent developments suggest, Gonzalez’s condition is still to be determined. “He is over there getting a work up, we will know more as the night goes on and more reports will follow in the morning,” said Black while speaking on the present condition of Gonzalez on Saturday.
Adrian Gonzalez, the brother of Edgar Gonzalez, went to the hospital after deciding to leave the game after the sixth inning. “I think that was the thing to do mentally for Adrian. His mindset was probably with his brother,” Black said regarding Adrian’s pulling out on the sixth inning of the match due to his brother’s uncanny injury.
The mishap occurred when Edgar turned his right shoulder in order to get out of the way of Hammel’s pitch, when it hit him on the side of the helmet. Edgar soon went down as medical team came rushing down to the field for his immediate treatment. After few minutes he was carted off the field and was readily taken to the hospital.
