coachAlmost two months after the tragic shooting to death of a Iowa high school football coach, Ed Thomas, his team took to the field in a match that was held on Friday. Their first since their coach was slain. The boys believe, it is what their coach would have wanted them to do. This was also the Aplington- Parkersburg High School football team’s first match without their former coach.

The 58 year old Ed Thomas was reported to have been shot at and killed on the June 24th this year.

At the time when the shooting took place, Thomas was said to have been supervising an early morning session of weightlifting at the school’s weight room. The person who has been accused of shooting the coach is said to be a 24 year old man named Mark Becker, who was one of the former players of Thomas.

The incident had drawn enough and more national media coverage to have ensured a national audience viewer ship for the team’s first match telecast, post the slaying episode. ESPN had covered the event.

The school and Thomas’ team has also paid a tribute to the late coach by putting up his name in large fonts, across the field. This week, the coach was honored in the Iowa Hall of Pride. As a part of the exhibit that was put out for display were Thomas’ cap and jacket. Also displayed was his trophy that he had received for the NFL High School Coach of the Year. A video depicting the late Thomas on and off the field, was also part of the exhibition.
