Ecclestone may sell shareholding in QPR for 100 million pounds
April 27th, 2011 - 2:51 pm ICT by ANILondon, Apr 27(ANI): Formula One chief Bernie Ecclestone has indicated that he would consider selling London-based football club Queens Park Rangers (QPR) for 100 million pounds.
Ecclestone, who purchased the majority shareholding of 62 percent from former Renault F1 team principal Flavio Briatore in December, said: “If somebody bought that team today it would be a very good punt. It is probably worth 100 million pounds.”
However, he also noted that a change of ownership would still be in Briatore’s hands.
The 80-year-old says at the time of the deal with Briatore, the Italian was given an option of taking back the stake if he were to sell.
“I don’t have any choice staying in or going out. Flavio would probably be the one to sell if anybody … It is dependent on Flavio,” the Daily Mail quoted Ecclestone, as saying.
QPR currently needs one more point from their remaining two fixtures to rubber stamp their return to Premier League after a 15-year absence. (ANI)
