Ecclestone backs Schumacher to provide Ferrari their first win of season
August 5th, 2009 - 4:21 pm ICT by ANILondon, Aug. 5 (ANI): President and CEO of Formula One Administration, Bernie Ecclestone, has expressed confidence in seven-time Formula One (F1) world drivers’ champion Michael Schumacher to provide Ferrari their first win of the season.
The 40 year-old German is set to make a comeback into F1 racing for the European Grand Prix as a replacement for injured Ferrari driver Felipe Massa, who is recovering from serious head injuries sustained during the qualifying rounds of the Hungarian Grand Prix 11 days ago.
“I see Michael winning again. If anyone can do it, Michael can. He was never boring and won’t be boring now,” The Sun quoted Ecclestone, as saying.
Ecclestone said that other than providing Ferrari with a much-awaited success in the championship, he would also like Schumacher to continue as a driver for some more seasons in the F1.
“I think he’s going to give one or two of them a driving lesson and I’d like to see him stay for a lot of seasons. Let’s wait and see what happens. He might make a big decision,” said Ecclestone.
According to the official Formula One website, Schumacher is “statistically the greatest driver the sport has ever seen”. He is the only German to win the F1World championship, and is credited with popularizing Formula One in Germany and around the world. (ANI)
