East Bengal and Lajong FC to cross swords in Federation Cup final
January 3rd, 2010 - 5:02 pm ICT by ANIGuwahati, Jan 3 (ANI): Football lovers will get an opportunity to witness the finals of the Federation cup on Sunday here, as East Bengal and Lajong FC lock horns to claim the title.
The East Bengal is considered to be a favourite as Sunday’s win will fetch them their sixth triumph, the latest being in 2007 in Ludhiana.
On the other hand, Shillong’s football team Lajong FC would love to begin the New Year on a winning note.
By winning Sunday’s match, Lajong FC can become the first team from the North East to be crowned winners of the country’s top league-cum-knockout tournament, that too in their debut season.
Lajong FC will however miss their two foreign players Daniel Bidemi and James Gbilee, who were given the yellow card.”My boys are in high spirit after defeating champion Churchill Brothers in semis and they know what exactly to do when they face Kolkata side in the final,” said Lajong FC coach Stanly Rozario.
East Bengal defeated Mohun Bagan 2-0 in the second semi-final of the Hero Honda 31st Federation Cup.
Lajong FC is a good and energetic side and the final to be a tough battle to win, said East Bengal coach Phillip de Ridder. Sunday’s winner will qualify for the AFC Cup 2010. (ANI)
