November 20th, 2010 - 1:30 am ICT by Aishwarya BhattChicago, Nov 19 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Due to safety concerns, only one end zone will be used in the upcoming game at the Wrigley. The Saturday game between Illinois and Northwestern will be held at the Wrigley Field.
The Big Ten announced on Friday that the new measure was necessary because of concerns that injuries can take place during the game. According to the new arrangement, an offensive team on Saturday will be positioned to head to the west end zone. The new arrangement however seem to have the thumbs up from most of the people concerned.
Illinois sports information director, Kent Brown revealed that the new measure was taken in consultation with all the stakeholders consulted. He said the measure will decrease the possibility of an injury and revealed that as much as possible, the decision was made with the athletic directors and coaching staffs of the two schools. He also revealed that the number one factor that led to the decision was the safety concern of the students and athletes that will be at Wrigley on Saturday.
He said that, “I think it’s a student-athlete safety concern that is first and foremost, and we want to make sure there’s no chance for somebody to run into that wall and get seriously injured”.
