Drogba to get a new three-year contract at Chelsea

Chelsea London, June 3 (ANI): Chelsea striker Didier Drogba will be offered a new three-year contract to stay at the club.

It represents an amazing change of fortune for Drogba, who looked certain to leave this summer after his Champions League bust-up.

But new boss Carlo Ancelotti has made it clear he wants the 31-year-old Ivory Coast striker, who faces a lengthy UEFA ban after confronting referee Tom Henning Ovrebo when Chelsea crashed out of Europe against Barcelona, the Mirror reported.

Drogba still has a year left on his current 100,000 pound-a-week contract and club owner Roman Abramovich will bankroll another improved deal, which will make the forward one of the club’s top earners.

Drogba is likely to accept, especially as he will want to help Ancelotti fulfil his ambition of winning the Champions League with Chelsea.

He struggled for form and a berth in the starting line-up under previous manager Luiz Felipe Scolari, but Drogba won back his place, scored in Saturday’s FA Cup Final win and made it clear afterwards he wants to stay at Chelsea.

Drogba has already apologised for the outburst, which led to him and Chelsea being charged by UEFA. (ANI)
