The Dallas Mavericks have struck a deal with the unrestricted free agent Drew Gooden to make use some of the money they got back when Orlando matched their offer sheet earlier this month to restricted free agent Marcin Gortat.
The talented basket ball player Gooden announced his transfer in his Twitter page shortly passed mid night on Saturday, as he confirmed his transfer to the Mavericks. “Dallas, here I come,” he wrote in his Twitter page. In response to his post, Maverick’s owner Mark Cuban tweeted by writing, “Welcome Drew.”
According to the sources, Gooden receives a one year contract deal worth a guaranteed $4.5 million along with incentives that will likely to take the amount beyond $5 million mark at the end of this season. The Gooden sign up marks the continuation that Dallas has been doing during this off season, an effort that included acquiring forward Shawn Marion and re signing free agent point guard Jason Kidd.
Despite suffering from leg and abdominal injuries that had cost Gooden as many as 31 games last season, curbing him of showing off his skill, Gooden was highly coveted in February after negotiating a buy out with the Sacramento Kings and wound up signing the San Antonio Spurs. It is believed that Gooden will have the opportunity to start off at the center during his stint with the Mavericks, thus putting him ahead of Eric Dampier.
Although he had a minimal impact in Sn Antonio’s loss to Dallas during the first round match with Gooden averaging 7.3 points and 3.8 rebounds in 17.8 minutes , records show that Gooden has fared better with the Spurs, averaging 9.8 points and 4.4 rebounds in just 16.8 minutes per game.
