Shillong, May 27 (IANS) Following an unsuccessful Indian Premier League (IPL) campaign with the Rajasthan Royals, former Indian cricket captain Rahul Dravid was on a quiet, personal visit to Shillong most of this week, his relative said.

Dravid, often described as “The Wall” of Indian cricket team, arrived here Monday and left for Bangalore Friday morning. He managed to keep his visit under wraps and the local media failed to get a wind of it.

“He (Dravid) was here on a holiday and left Shillong this morning,” said Dravid’s brother-in-law Abhijit Pendharkar, who is a colonel in the Assam Rifles, told IANS.

Asked if Dravid’s visit to Shillong was to beat the heat after his unsuccessful campaign with the Rajasthan Royals, which failed to make it to the play-offs in this year’s edition, Pendharkar said: “In fact, after a reasonably good campaign with Rajasthan Royals where his performance was pretty good… he dropped by to beat the heat (of the plains).”

Dravid visited a few tourist spots - Sohra (Cherrapunjee) which has the highest rainfall in the world, and Mawlynnong village, which has earned the distinction of being cleanest village in India - Pendharkar said.

He also spent a few hours at the 18-hole Shillong golf course.

“He had a fantastic time and he told me that he would try to make a visit to Shillong again,” Pendharkar said.
