Lakewood, Dec. 31, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The community of professional wrestlers suffered a huge shock on Dec. 29 at the news of the death of the iconic “Dr. Death” himself, that is, Steve Williams. He was 49 year old at the time of his death. He had been suffering from throat cancer for quite a few years, and finally succumbed to it on Tuesday, at his residence in Lakewood in Colorado. The sad news was first posted in his official MySpace page. He leaves behind Jeff and Jerry, his brothers, and his son, Wyndham.
Steve Williams had been diagnosed with throat cancer in 1994. At that time, the doctors had given up, giving him an ultimatum of about six months. However, he had undergone surgery for the removal of his larynx, and had come out of it with flying colors. The doctors who were in charge of him commented that he was no more under risk. Unfortunately, however, the illness returned again after four years, and since then, he had been suffering from rapidly declining health.
Steve Williams, better known by his pseudonym Dr.Death in the wrestling ring, was a multi-talented man, not only a wrestler, but also a footballer. A former coach of the University of Oklahoma, where he graduated from, commented that he was the best athlete that has ever walked out of the gates of the University. A college wrestling champion, he left the University to become a regular in the classic matches. Also, in 1982, he was the All-Big Eight Conference offensive guard for the football team of the University of Oklahoma. He would be remembered as a fighter, just as he mentioned in the book he wrote after bouncing back to life from death.
