No wonder that Novan Djokovic will be remembered in the history of US Open due to the amazing sense of humor and sportsmanship that the player displayed on Monday after marching into the quarter-finals.
The tennis player reportedly challenged former champion turned commentator John McEnroe at a late night duel. Moreover, the legendary John McEnroe accepted his challenge!
Novan, who is already known for his hilarious impersonations of Rafael Nadal and Maria Sharapova added another title to his name. After his fourth round match with Radek Stepanek, which the Serb won comfortably thus earning a place at the quarter final, reportedly mimicked the mannerisms of McEnroe. Novan lifted the ball high up into the air before hitting it hard on the net.
Mimicking McEnroe, he threw his racket to the ground and pointed at an imaginary umpire as he said “It was wide” before picking up the patent McEnroe phrase “You cannot be serious”. The impersonation of John McEnroe by Novan had the 10,000 people present in the viewers gallery burst into laughter.
McEnroe sportingly accepted the offer to come and join Novan. McEnroe left the commentary box and came down onto the court to play a couple of points with Novan.
McEnroe was at his humorous best as the 50 year old did his own impersonation of the 2008 Australian Open Champion, as he bounced the ball reportedly low to the court before dispatching a volley for the winner. “Johny Mac made it all happen. It wasn’t easy coming down in a jeans and a shirt but he made it all fun,” said Novan acknowledging McEnroe. “Every one has a different personality. I like to entertain the crowd and this makes me happy in a certain way as well,” Novan quipped.
