Novak Djokovic Melbourne, Jan 30(ANI): World No.5 Andy Murray, who lost Sunday’s Australian Open men’s singles final to Novak Djokovic, has said that the World No.3 deserved to win the tournament.

Djokovic swept past Murray 4-6, 2-6, 3-6, in the championship match in two hours and 38 minutes at Melbourne Park.

“He (Djokovic) had an unbelievable tournament and deserved to win,” the New York Times quoted Murray, as saying.

It was the second Australian Open crown for the 23-year-old Serbian, who had previously won it in 2008.

The match also ended Murray’s dream to become the first to win a Grand Slam champion for the United Kingdom in 75 years.

Djokovic however believes that Murray will have another chance to win a Grand Slam trophy.

“I’m sure with your talent you will,” Djokovic said to Murray.

Djokovic’s first-place check is worth 2.186 million dollars, while Murray settled for 1.093 million dollars as the runner-up. (ANI)
