Dikshit to Delhi citizens: Treat XIXth Commonwealth Games as a national festival
September 18th, 2010 - 7:51 pm ICT by ANINew Delhi, Sept.18 (ANI): Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit today said that the city will sport a festive look during the upcoming Commonwealth Games, and asked people not to panic over the unprecedented security expected for the event to be held from October 3 to 14.
Promising a festive fervor during the Games in Delhi, she said that it is for the citizens to be part of this national event.
Dikshit urged people to be alert and take precautions during the Games.
She claimed that Delhi is now well prepared to host the Commonwealth Games for which a sense of discipline and dedication is required.
She urged the people to drive their vehicles in their specified lanes and also opt for public transport to reach their destinations.
The chief minister exhorted citizens to see the games as a national festival.
Dikshit was speaking after inaugurating a 220 KV sub-station at Ridge Valley, Dhaula Kuan, New Delhi.
The sub-station has been built at a cost of Rs.110 crore, and it is hoped it will go a long way in improving power supply in Delhi Cantonment, part of South-West Delhi and NDMC areas.
Delhi Chief Secretary Rakesh Mehta said that conventional sub-stations require large space and there is scarcity of land in Delhi.
In view of this, Delhi Transco is establishing sub-station with GIS which has more reliability aesthetics and less maintenance and can be established on one-fifth of the land space required for conventional sub-station. (ANI)
