Dhumal congratulates shooter Vijay Kumar
November 19th, 2010 - 7:28 pm ICT by IANSShimla, Nov 19 (IANS) Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal Friday congratulated shooter Vijay Kumar for winning two medals at the ongoing Asian Games in Guangzhou, China.
“The outstanding performance of Vijay Kumar has not only brought laurels to the country but also to his home state (Himachal Pradesh),” an official statement quoting Dhumal said.
Vijay, who won three gold and one silver at the Commonwealth Games in New Delhi, bagged bronze medals in the men’s 25-metre centre fire pistol and men’s 10 metres air pistol events.
Vijay, who is serving in the Indian Army, belongs to Harsour village in Hamirpur district of the state.
The state government honoured him with a cash reward of Rs.35 lakh for winning medals in the Commonwealth Games.
The government has already announced a reward of Rs.10 lakh to its athletes on winning a gold medal in any international event. The silver medallist will be given Rs.5 lakh while the bronze medallist will receive Rs.3 lakh.
