- Ranchi, Nov 16 (IANS) As president of the Mahendra Singh Dhoni fan club, he’s probably officially the biggest fan of the Indian skipper. And with the bat as his election symbol he’s all set to enter the poll fray for the Jharkhand assembly elections.
Jitendra Singh has filed his nomination from Hatia assembly constituency of Ranchi city as an independent candidate.
Singh had earlier laid the foundation stone for a temple in honour of Dhoni. The construction of the temple was halted after Dhoni’s family objected.
Singh later announced that he would establish a museum in Dhoni’s honour.
“Do not think I am trying to exploit Dhoni’s popularity. I am a great fan of Dhoni but I am fighting the election as Jitendra Singh. It is a coincidence that my election symbol is a bat,” Singh said.
The poll for Hatia assembly seat will take place Nov 25.
The five-phased polls to the Jharkhand assembly will be held Nov 25-Dec 18 and the counting will take place Dec 23.
