Dhoni accorded warm welcome in home town Ranchi
June 1st, 2011 - 6:59 pm ICT by IANSRanchi, June 1 (IANS) India’s World Cup winning captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni was accorded a warm welcome on arrival at his home town of Ranchi here Wednesday.
Dhoni arrived here for the frist time since winning the World Cup. The town had been eagerly waiting for Dhoni after the World Cup and later the Indian Premier League (IPL) tested their patience. Dhoni led Chennai Super Kings to defend the IPL crown in Chennai Saturday.
At Birsa Munda Airport, Dhoni was accorded warm welcome in a traditional tribal culture by beating nagaras (drums). People were also seen dancing to drum beats.
Dhoni came out from airport with his wife Sakshi in a tight security cover. City police superintendent S. Thakur and Deputy Mayor Ajay Sahdeo were present at the airport.
Dhoni waved at the crowds, who were waiting anxiously at the airport.
From airport, Dhoni went directly to his home at the Harmu housing colony. Hundreds of fans had also gathered outside house to have a glimpse of the triumphant Indian captain.
