devanJan 27, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The University of South Carolina won the game against the University of Kentucky on Tuesday, Jan 26, 2010, thanks mostly to Devan Downey. The player was almost singlehandedly responsible for giving the University of Kentucky a taste of their first defeat of the current season. This game was a very significant one for the University of South Carolina, not only because they had managed to defeat the number one team, but also because they had been losing continuously to the University of Kentucky for the last few games, seven in all.

Devan Downey alone managed to score 30 points of the 68-62 victory won by the University of South Carolina. In fact, it had been his three point basket, with only 4 minutes and six seconds left in the game, that gave the University of Kentucky its first win in seven games. He particularly performed well in the second half of the game, by scoring a three pointer and also a couple of foul shots. Despite having scored only 9 baskets out of the total of 29, he did manage ten free throws.

At the end of the match, the whole stadium at Florida erupted in cheers. Devan Downey himself went on to hug his teammates, elated and screaming, “I told you so!” Later on, he commented that they had lost in the previous matches as they did not get a chance to win. Needles to say, the win was a huge thing for him, as he had not been having a particularly good season, and this in indeed as much rejuvenating for him as it is for the team.
