July 29, (THAINDIAN NEWS) In an attempt to strengthen its defense, that has suffered a set-back in the recent past, the Detroit Tigers on Wednesday traded Giovanni Soto, a minor league left-hander player to the Cleveland Indians to acquire veteran third baseman Jhonny Peralta. The Detroit Tigers not only got Jhonny Peralta but also received financial help from the Cleveland Indians who gave the team some cash considerations so that they can cover up the remaining of the $4.6 million salary of the player.
In the new team Jhonny Peralta will take hold of the position of the third baseman which was held by Brandon Inge. Brandon Inge is out of the field due to broken left hand. Apart from the third baseman position the team, the second baseman and the Outfielder positions have also suffered a loss as second baseman Carlos Guillen has strained his right calf and Outfielder Magglio Ordonez is recuperating from broken right ankle. The team thus now has a hoard of young players. On Wednesday after the trade, Detroit Tigers’ general manager Dave Dombrowski said to media sources that the trade will give the team another veteran in the team lineup.
Dave Dombrowski said to media sources that he was trying for some time to strengthen the ballclub and is hopeful that the veteran player, Jhonny Peralta will help the present situation of the team. Manager Jim Leyland said that the he thinks the trade sends a right message to the team. Jhonny Peralta is most likely to join the Detroit Tigers on Thursday’s day game at Tampa Bay.
