- Detroit, Oct 10 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Johan Franzen will be out of action for at least four months after suffering a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee during Thursday’s game. The Detroit Red Wings sadly found out that Johan wouldn’t be playing for them for at least 4 months, following a 3-2 victory over the Chicago Blackhawks.
“It happened last night, I don’t know exactly when,” general manager Ken Holland said. “It happened before he scored the goal and he played the rest of the game with it.”
After practice Friday morning, coach Mike Babcock said Franzen, 29, had gotten injured in the game and wasn’t feeling well so he went for medical tests, which revealed the ACL tear.
Holland said the team would call up Justin Abdelkader from Grand Rapids of the American Hockey League. Abdelkader was sent down Thursday after the team signed Brad May.
Holland said Franzen likely would have surgery in a couple of weeks, after the swelling subsides.
