Derrick Rose photos flashing gang signsJune 12th, 2009 - 4:15 pm ICT by GD
A photograph of Derrick Rose is doing the rounds of the Internet actively. That has given the player a lot to worry about and bring on a headache. The Chicago Bulls point guard has termed the ‘now popular’ photo on the Internet as a bad joke. The star player is shown as flashing a gang sign in the photograph, with the background of a weed smoked joint looming large.
Rose,20, is a native of Englewood, which is on the South Side of Chicago. He had attended Simeon and had gone to college in the University of Memphis for a year. The gang culture is a very dominant feature in the Englewood neighborhood. Having being raised up in that sort of a surroundings, it cannot be very unlikely for Rose to have been part of a gang.
The Chicago Tribune and the Chicago Sun Times came out with the reports of the photograph on Thursday. In response, Rose released a statement shortly saying that the photograph was a bad joke. A joke which was made in the days he had spent in the University of Memphis. The photograph was taken while Rose was attending a party.
Rose, in his statement said, “This photo of me taken at a party I attended in Memphis while I was in school there, and was meant as a joke.. a bad one, I now admit. I want to emphatically state, now and forever, that Derrick Rose is anti- gang, anti- drug and anti- violence.”
Rose was the overall No. 1 pick in the NBA draft in 2008. He had led the Chicago Bulls to the playoffs.
