Sep 17, (THAINDIAN NEWS) New York Yankees star Derek Jeter found himself in the news after the video of him faking being hit on the wrist started doing rounds on the web. The video in slow motion shows that the pitch hit the bat the hitter and had no contact with his body. Derek Jeter, however, reacts as if the ball hit his wrist and appears to suffer from excruciating pain. The New York Yankees captain was awarded the base in the 7th inning of the game which saw his side lose 4-3 to the Tampa Bay.
Derek Jeter admitted after the game that the pitch had in fact hit the base of the bat and did not cause him any pain. Joe Maddon, the manager of Tampa Bay found himself ejected from the game after he argued the call by the umpire in favor of Derek Jeter. The Yankee said that his objective was to get to the first base. After the fake hit Derek Jeter shook his arm that signaled Gene Monahan to make an on-field exam of his wrist. Derek Jeter said that Gene Monahan acted more than he did.
The incident has become a rage in the baseball circuit after the video was released. Tampa Bay Rays manager Joe Maddon, who got into a heated argument due to Derek Jeter’s acting skills, said that if his team players did it, he would have applauded that too. Though it is common in sports for players to fake being injured in the field, some bloggers have felt that the measure was too desperate by the New York Yankees captain. Ron Gardenhire of the Minnesota Twins found the video and the acting amusing and said that almost everyone does it sometime and its a part of the game.
