December 11th, 2010 - 1:05 am ICT by BNO NewsDENVER, COLORADO (BNO NEWS) — Perrish Cox, a rookie defensive player of the Denver Broncos, was arrested on Thursday night on charges of sexual assault, the Denver Post reported on Friday.
Cox, a rookie starter cornerback, was arrested at around 10 p.m. local time by Lone Tree police officers. He was booked on charges of sexual assault and is currently in custody at the Douglas County Detention Center.
The 23-year-old football player was allegedly involved in an incident that took place at a private residence in Lone Tree, a city in Douglas County, on October 28. The case file was sealed to protect the identity of the sexually assaulted victim.
“We are aware of the reports and are currently in the process of gathering information and reviewing the facts,” said Broncos media relations director Patrick Smyth, according to the Denver Post. “We are taking this matter very seriously and are fully cooperating with every aspect of the process.”
“After a lengthy and detailed investigation, a case was presented to the District Attorney’s Office,” said Michelle Kivela, Lone Tree Deputy City Manager. “After review by the District Attorney’s Office, charges were filed and an arrest warrant was issued.”
Cox was drafted by the Denver Broncos in the fifth round of the 2010 NFL Entry Draft. He played college football at the Oklahoma State University.
He has stared in eight games of the season playing as a cornerback. The Broncos are having a disappointing season as they have only won three games and lost nine.
